Forum Discussion
Hi Chris,
Hotfix shows it executed successfully, and Microsoft .Net Framework is updated. But when I run payroll, and click record, it still sets payments to 0 and doesn't report anything. I called help line again on 12/Jul. They ask me to bring our company file on line. A lady run 3 scripts on it. I then process the same payroll on line, it worked. I thought the problem has been fixed. After discussion with the support lady, I took our file down and save it back to local library. I just run this week's payroll today, it doesn't work again, exact same problem. I want to know if phrase 2 only works online. Any suggession would be helpful.
Thanks.
For STP phase 2 your file does need to be online to be able to report yes. If your file is on STP 2 you will need to have the file online to be able to record your payroll.

Hi Chris,
This is not a good news, I didn't see a notice anywhere before I move to phase 2. Does that mean that I can not process payroll (record payrun) while I run my company file offline anymore? There wasn't an issue while I was on phase 1.
Thanks

Hello GK21
Sorry for the delay in my response.
This is correct, you can only report through STP phase 2 with your file online, you won't be able to do it with the file offline as you did with STP 1
I have linked our Help Article on getting ready for STP phase 2 which contains more details information.If you still need assistance with this please let me know and I'll be happy to help.

The problem is big files ChrisMYOB cannot be run online reliably.
If fact timeout issues on big files (usually in the reports) will result in MYOB support asking if the file is greater than 300mb and then stating that the file needs to be less than 300mb for it to work reliably online. At which point the obvious inquiry becomes ' If I have to keep the file under 300mb then why on earth is there no purge transactions function anymore?'
With no purge capability files grow bigger and bigger and bigger... What are we to do?
Well it just so happens that Support have the sollution to reduce the file size and it is as follows;
From the Live file;
- manually export current cards
- manually export open invoices
- manually export bills
- manually export inventory
- etc etc
then;
- create a new file
- manually import all your exports
- Pray you have not missed anything
- replace the old online file with the new file
- ring MYOB to have feeds switched to the new file
- pray again that you've not just created a slow burning disaster
Then watch and monitor the file size so you can rinse and repeat the switch to a new file proceedure the next time your close to the limit.
Prior versions of MYOB allowed for quick and easy transaction purging of files that had become too big to reliably run anymore, I've seen files reduce in size from 1gb+ to less than 100mb after the purge.
PS when I asked support (or possibly my partner manager), years ago, why there was no longer a purge the answer was... 'The old MYOB used a database that didnt react very well as the database increased in size. However the new MYOB uses a modern database that doesn't care how large it is, there is no need to purge anything anymore.'
