Resigning after Maternity Leave

Hi

Can you please advise how I process a final pay for an employee in NZ payroll who resigned the day before she was due to return to work due to health reasons.  We have her set up as starting maternity leave on 6/6/16, and return date was 13/4/17.

I understand that the last day of duty would be the day before she went on maternity leave, however I need assistance with how to calculate what she will be entitled to in her final pay.

Thanks

Re: Resigning after Maternity Leave

Hi there @krispy

In NZ Payroll, you would process a final pay as per normal paying all outstanding leave owing. Depending on the timing, there could be a small amount of Hol Pay owing if the anniversary hasn't rolled over yet. In any case an Hol pay earned would be owing to the mployee if not already paid out. If the anniversary date has rolled over since the employee left on maternity leave, then a manual adjustment would need to be made to the annual leave balance to reduce the number of hours owing back to what it would have been at the correct leaving date.

Re: Resigning after Maternity Leave

Hi @krispy,

Welcome back to the forum and I hope you are finding this resourceful.

My take on this would be to talk to Employment Department New Zealand to clarify the situation and have a read through this article-   https://www.employment.govt.nz/leave-and-holidays/parental-leave/returning-to-work/.

I have provided you with a link to Prepare a final pay guiding you through to process a final pay in NZ Payroll. as well as Parental Leave affecting annual leave. Also please have a look at @jenniek' s post on this link as she has also provided some additional information especially the attachment which might help.

Let us know how you go as we are happy to help you further.
