HI,
I use my MYOB once a year for the accountant.
I send him my backup, which he can open and edit, but everytime he sends me the updated backed up file I cannot open it.
AccountRight Plus AU
My version is: 2013.5.15.9262
File version 2013.5.15.9458
I get the following error: "the connection to the server was lost. Please check that the server is on and connected to the network"
I have two ideas what could be the issue, pls confirm before i go back to the accountant.
1) He is working online and when I try to restore it , it keeps looking for his server.
2) He either has put a password or he has somehow changed the licence number on my file.
pls help
Regards
Kristina

Hi @krist
If accountant has sent you both the .myox and the .zip file (usually they send one or the other), with the zip you need to use the Restore option and select Restore to my Library. Even if accountant has the file online, it will restore locally.
If your accountant has the file online the file would have been upgraded to AR2022 as you cannot have a AR2013 file online.
If using the .myox, you use Add to Library.
Unless accountant uses AR2013 locally, he may have upgraded the file to AR2022 as MYOB is forcing upgrades. If this is the case AR2013 will not open the file - it will may even recognise it as a MYOB file. You should install AR2022.3 and try that.

HI Gavin,
thanks for your reply.
I got the accountant to send the .zip file, which I managed to restore into the library, but when I try and open it (which doesn't show in my library view for some reason, and I can't figure out where to change the link in MYOB).
When I try and open it, I get the same error "Connection to server lost".
I am on Local and do not use a server.
I also got the accountant to send the .myox file, but I still get the same error.
When should I tell the accountant to change.
thanks
Kristina

Hi @krist
I suggest three things:
Re-start your computer, re-install AR2013.5 and try to open the .myox file again, if that fails, install AR2022.3 and try to open the .myox file.

Gavin

Hi @krist
Here is a link to MYOB's downloads page.
AR2013.5 is only available in Server Edition - MYOB advise to use this even if you are using on a PC.
There is also a link to AR2022.3 - all there software is free, however the Company File must be licensed for the version you are using.
If this doesn't work get in touch with your accountant and find out more about what version they were using with your file.

Hi Gavin
Maybe that is the issue, I believe they only just installed 2013.5 to be able to see my file.
Mine is very old and is only a stand alone version.
I will try the server version and see if that works.
thanks
Regards
Kristina
