Moving the Document Manager file store to a network location

I have a standalone MYOB AO setup. I'm wanting to move the Document Manager File Store to a network folder. I note that when running the DM_Config utility, it says the location must be a local folder and not a network location. To get around this (rightly or wrongly), I've simply mounted a network folder as a drive and point the DM_Config utility at it. It accepts the setting fine however, when I attempt to add a file to DM, it errors out saying "Cannot save file to the File Store after 3 attempts. Reason: Could not find a part of the path '<file store location I gave it>\<folder name MYOB creates>'. File <file i'm adding>. The file remains checked out, please try again later."
So it begs the question, can one actually use a network location as the DM File Store? If so, what settings need to be changed to allow for this?
I note that this could be done by saving to an iSCSI target however, our implementation requires a network share.
