Cessation Reason Code must be provided lodging pays

Hi

I have just moved to STP phase 2. The STP Report Status says :

Accepted with errors. The good news is this report has been accepted by the ATO. But, there are a few things you need to fix before your next pay run. These are listed below.

  • Cessation Reason Code must be provided
    (ATO error code: CMN.ATO.PAYEVNTEMP.000239

What does it mean? How do I fix this? (for 1 employee)

Thank you

FIK

Re: STP phase 2

Hi @fik168 and @J-H

Does this or any other employee have a termination date after 1 July 2020? If yes and if using Phase 2 a Cessation code must be provided.

Read more here: Getting ready for STP Phase 2 (At the bottom: What if I've moved to STP Phase 2 without considering terminated and inactive employees?)

Let me know how you get on with this.

Kind regards,
Yanike

Re: STP phase 2

Hi Yanike_S

I had removed the termination date both on the card and the STP Report but had not changed the start date back to the date before the termination.

Hence this message meant that the (latest) start date was after the termination date and was not accepted.

All fixed now!

Re: STP phase 2

Hi Yanike,

I am also getting the same error, and have removed the termination date for the employee already.

Cessation Reason Code must be provided
(ATO error code: CMN.ATO.PAYEVNTEMP.000239)

I've also worked through your all of the steps in your link;

What if I've moved to STP Phase 2 without considering terminated and inactive employees?

If you've already moved to STP Phase 2 but you didn't complete the above process for terminated and inactive employees (who you've paid in the current payroll year), you'll need to complete the following tasks.

1. Remove the termination date

2. Re-activate employees

3. Check employee details

4. Send an update event

After I've sent update event, I keep getting the same error;

Employee information errors

Employee x
  • Cessation Reason Code must be provided
    (ATO error code: CMN.ATO.PAYEVNTEMP.000239).

Are you able to please help any further?

Thanks,

Nicky.

Re: STP phase 2

Hi Nicky,

I had the same problem the start date on my file was the restart date after termination.

Have you changed the start date to the previous date before the termination date.

Hope this helps!

Re: STP phase 2

Hi J-H,

Yes the start date (in 2021) was always before the termination date (in 2022).

After I posted this message, I was advised by MYOB help line to re-enter the termination date after I had changed to STP 2, and then I could enter the termination reason and method.

I no longer received the error, and the report had 1 less employee.

Thanks very much for responding!

Nicky.

Re: STP phase 2

Hi Nicky

I have also followed the steps as you mentioned.

Did you re-enter the termination dates in the MYOB Card File.  I haven't undone the Employee terminations in STP reporting centre as I thought you only needed to do it in the card file.

Not sure if I need to do this then send another update before re-entering in the card files.

I have 30 terminated employees and trying to balance my EOFY has been a nightmare!

Thank you

Amanda
