Hi LynO , you can still retain those backups and if you did ever need to access them you can do so using Server Edition.
Going forward, one of the advantages of having the file online is that your information is accessible in both the desktop and the browser.
In browser for example, previous financial years can be viewed by simply changing the date, until in desktop where you would need to restore a back up of the previous year.
Also even though the backups are retained for 6 months, a new backup is taken every 7 days.
If a business closed and therefore the subscription to MYOB is cancelled, it would be a good exercise to request a backup copy to retain for record keeping. But while you have an active business and an active subscription with MYOB, we have got you covered.
We would really like to have the ability to have offline backups reinstated for our online files. Granted it may be problematic to reinstate said files into the online environment, but how can MYOB guarantee me that our user data backups are following 3-2-1 backup principles and guidelines, esp if MYOB suffers a DR event or otherwise and the RTO time is quick enough for all their users.
At least rolling over a fin year does not crunch your transactions like it used to.

Hi Damien, the ability to take an offline backup from an online file is not something that we are considering at the moment.
You can absolutely suggest this in our ideas exchange for product managers and developers to see.
Another option would be to request a server backup retrieval from MYOB, this is not a free service, but if you were only doing this once per year for peace of mind it might be something you can consider.
