Hi Marlyse, you can submit a cancellation request through myaccount.myob.com, for a business closure there should be no need to call and you can submit the request through to the team.
We have always had the server backup retrieval service available for a fee to customers, this is not new or related to the removal of offline mode.
Locally stored backups can become corrupted or lost, so the retrieval is something that has been a service with MYOB for many years.
There are multiple options for retaining your data, the server backup retrieval is just one of them. You can export the data you need before you cancel or you could take a read only subscription. The server backup retrieval is $49.95 inc GST
When you try to submit a cancellation request through myaccount.myob.com this is the message you get:
Cancel subscription
If you’d like to cancel your current plan or find a better match for your business,
get in touch with our team at 1300 940 281.
You'll need your client ID which you can find in the top right of your screen.
So yes you need to ring.
If you are talking about the TXT file for exporting data, that is not what people/ATO want. We need to see the transactions.
How do you take a read only subscription? Pre 17/6 this would have been opening a normal backup that the client could save on their servers.
How do you request a server backup retrieval?
I lodged a support request (03149285) on 12/6/2026 to ask and sort out this before 30/6/2026, but no one has responded.

Morning Liz_A , this would depend on how the file was operating before moving to SE.
I'm not sure there would be many (any) customers who have moved from an online file in PC edition to being offline in server edition. This would be the only scenario I can think of where you could lose your attachments.
But a customer moved from online to offline, and they were using the in tray feature (which is an online only feature), then the documents uploaded to the in tray would not be in the file when opening in SE.
Customers can request a bulk export of in tray documents from MYOB up to 1 year after cancelling their subscription though.
If a customer was offline in PC edition, and then continued offline in Server Edition, there would be no change at all for them. They are both opening the same file/data/features. - Mike_MYOB25 days agoCommunity Manager
Hi Marlyse , apologies, you are correct, I have tested this and found the same experience with cancellation.
This previously would be dependent on the reason for cancellation that is chosen.
I will follow this up internally to see if we can revert back.
Calling the team however, is exactly how you can have the discussion about your best next steps and how to do this, eg the read only subscription, or the server backup retrieval.
A case to support (without know what categories you have chosen) may not be answered by the right people.
You are welcome to send me a private message with your case number and I can follow this up *edit. Sorry I can see you provided your case number.
But considering that you want to cancel your subscription/close your business, a call to the cancellations team is your best course of action - Marlyse24 days agoTrusted Cover User
Hi Mike
I have cancelled my subscription, and yes they still did try to upsell to keep a subscription going.
The person on the phone sent to link to download reports, and download 2026.4 to be able to download a copy of an offline backup.
But we cannot create an offline backup and the person on the other end of the phone could not grasp that concept. After the last update you cannot create an offline backup.
Create an offline backup of your company file
So the link they are giving customers is wrong. We cannot make a backup ourselves.
She also knew nothing about paying $49.95 about the server backup retrieval - which I assume is the only way you can get a copy of your MYOB file at the end of a subscription now.
I just want my backup if the ATO ever come calling - it can't be that hard.
You also mentioned that it can be retrieved after 30/6/26 when my subscription ends - it this correct? How long is the backup held on your cloud when the subscription ends?

Hi Marlyse ,
Thanks for posting back with an update on how things went for you.
I have already spoken with the team leader for the cancellation team and provided them with information about the server backup retrieval process and costs so they can educate the team, I'm sorry that they were not aware of this when I have been promoting it as an option.
The instructions for creating an offline backup are still correct but with one caveat.
If the file has been used in 2026.5 PC edition, it will not be backwards compatible to open in 2026.4 PC edition to try and take an offline backup.
If you complete this before the end of the week, you can still do this in Server Edition today while it is waiting for an update that will happen next week.
You can open the file in Server edition:Change Preferences -> Security -> Enable offline backup and take backup on their computer
The online backups are retained for 60 days so you will definitely have time to request this after your cancellation. - Marlyse24 days agoTrusted Cover User
Thanks Mike
I have done all that and it works. I have opened it in Server Edition and can see it all and record.
Just to make it crystal clear for my client - the only thing this restoration of the backup doesn't have are all the uploaded documents.
Is there any difference between what I have just done and the server backup retrieval?
Is there any way to download bulk documents in the in-tray (desktop edition)?
I have other clients that I know have tossed away paperwork believing it's all in the cloud, but once the subscription ends are they accessible/retrievable if the ATO comes calling?
Also the link on the "Cancelling your MYOB Subscription" - Before you go - Download copies of any uploaded documents, when you change to 'Desktop" it only talks about Uploading, not downloading.
Working with uploaded documents
I don't use "Browser" a lot, so I presume on the Uploads menu it might show a whole list of ones that have been uploaded since inception 🤷♀️. All my clients use the Desktop Version Intray.
Thanks for your patience

You're welcome Marlyse ,
The server backup retrieval would be same as what you have done. The main difference is timing, as opening your file in SE and taking the offline backup wont be possible after a patch is made to Server Edition next week.
We do have some help information about import/export and you can toggle the page near the top to change between desktop and browser information.Browser would be a better option for exporting your data for record keeping as you can use report packs.
Regarding the in tray documents, there is currently no way to export these in bulk for either desktop or browser. While you still have an active subscription and can access the file, it would be a case of opening and downloading each one.
After the file is cancelled though, within 1 year of cancellation, you can request a bulk export of in tray documents from our support team.

Hi Mike_MYOB
Please advise whether users who stay on the PC version without updates activated will keep their uploaded documents?
Regards
Liz

Thanks - I noticed that those who swap to the SE version will lose the uploads or have I misunderstood?
