Connected Accounts: Helpful Tips for onboarding

We’ve noticed a few common questions about connecting accounts, so here’s some handy tips to help you understand what’s happening behind the scenes and what to expect.

🔗 We use Open Banking (not traditional bank feeds)

When you connect your bank account in Solo, we use secure Open Banking technology via Adatree.

That means:

  • You provide secure consent through your bank.
  • We don’t store your banking credentials.
  • Your consent lasts for 12 months, and you’ll be prompted to re-consent when it expires.

👀 Can’t see your account listed to connect?

There are a couple of common reasons for this:

👥 Joint accounts

Some banks require both account holders to complete consent, or for a shared authority form to be in place. Each bank has slightly different Open Banking rules, so it’s best to check directly with your bank if your joint account isn’t appearing. You can visit your bank’s website or give them a call for clarification.

🏢 Business accounts

Some business accounts require a nominated representative or a specific authority structure before they’re eligible for Open Banking. If the account isn’t showing up, it’s often related to bank-side permissions rather than anything inside Solo. Again, your bank’s website or support team can confirm what’s required.

Just connected your bank but can’t see transactions yet?

This is one of the most common question we see!

👉 Solo can’t complete setup until at least one transaction has been posted to your bank account.

If there’s already a transaction on the account today:

  • Once consent is given, Adatree attempts to fetch transactions.
  • If none are available yet, We will try again at the next scheduled data collection time, We collect data twice a day 😊

If there are no transactions yet:
  • The connection won’t move to the next step until your first posted transaction comes through.
  • After that, it can take up to 36 hours (depending on the bank) for Solo to update.

If there are still no posted transactions on the account at all, the setup screen won’t change just yet, and that’s completely expected.

🚫 Please don’t disconnect and reconnect

If you don’t see transactions immediately, it can be tempting to disconnect and try again, but this usually just resets the process and can cause further delays.

If you’ve connected successfully, the best thing to do is wait for your first posted transaction and allow the sync time mentioned above.

Final step: Link your account to a category

Once your first transaction comes through:

  1. Go to your Home screen

     2. Tap Finish set up

     3. Choose the category for that account

This step tells Solo where to allocate transactions on the accounting side.
