My next pay period will include 4 days stat holidays.
In our off season our employees will work 8 hours ordinary time plus 1/2 hour at time and a half. ( 8am to 5pm) or 40 hours at ordinary and time and a half then on .
We are now into our busy time of year where they are working 10 to 12 hour days plus entitled to meal allowances if they work 11 hours or more, So when in enter pays how do I do the calculations under stat holidays? They did not work on the stat holiday.
I understand that average of 52 weeks has to be used for annual leave, but because they work alot of overtime their pay rate is huge when using this method for Stat, sick or bereavement.
I gather I can use relevant daily pay rate, but cannot work out how to do this. Please take me through the steps for MYOB payroll 2014.

Thank you but can you still explain how to pay this in MYOB when using relevant pay.
The guys all worked Mon 8.5, Tues 8.5, Wednesday 8.5 so when entering pays I go 24hrs at ordinary then 1.5 at time and a half. then head down to stat days for the Thursday and Friday which none of them worked but is their normal day of work, how do I enter this as 16 hours Ord and 1 hour overtime? Do i just change their rate maually or is there another way?

Normal hours worked is entered into the STAT pay code for a person that does not work on public holiday but is their normal day of work. You do not pay overtime to a person who does not work the public holiday.
So in your case it is 8 hours per public holiday
So 2 public holidays equals 16 hours at their relevant daily pay rate
It is possible to use average daily pay as alternative to relevant daily pay rate as specified in support note Holiday Act changes 1 April 2011 where the employee has variable earnings

In the Act 2011 relevant daily pay states (a) means the amount of pay that the employee would have received had the employee worked on that day concerned and includes (ii) payments for overtime if those payments would have otherwise been received had the employee worked on the day concerned.
Sorry to quote the Act but Im finding it very confusing.
So in our case the guys would need to be paid 8 hours ordinary and 1/2 hour overtime, so I gather over over the two days this would equal 17 hours?

You could pay the 8 hours that would have been paid at the regular rate using the pay code 'STAT.' By default the pay code should come up with the employee's regular rate. If it comes up with a higher rater, click the 'leave' button while processing pay, and then click the ellipsis (...) next to 'Alternative Holidays due' and ensure 'Use Average Daily Pay based on 52 weeks of Gross Earnings' isn't ticked.
To clearest way to pay the overtime would be to create a new pay code. To do this go to the maintenance command center and then click 'maintain pay codes.' Here create a new gross earnings pay code with the code 'STAT1.5' and the description 'Public Holidays Time and a Half.' Set the pay code rate to normal, and then type 1.5 in the 'multiplied by' field.
