Introducing Passkeys: a more secure way to sign in to Solo
Passkeys are one of the most secure ways to sign in, full stop. They use your device’s built-in security, like Face ID or your fingerprint, so there’s no password to forget, reuse or hand over to the wrong place.
Here at MYOB, we take the security of your financial records and services seriously. That's why MYOB is rolling out Passkeys across all MYOB products, including Solo (you can read that announcement here). Smarter, safer, and honestly, kind of brilliant. Let's break down what that means for you. 👇
What even is a passkey? 🔑
A passkey lets you sign in without typing a password. Instead, your device proves it's you.
How do Passkeys work and how can you can set one up for Solo?
How it works:
- Tap Sign in with a Passkey
- Your device asks you to confirm your identity using biometrics or your PIN
- Your device and Solo do a quick, secure handshake in the background
Your sign-in details never appear on screen and are never shared with MYOB.
How do I set up passkeys for Solo?
It’s easy, and it only takes a few minutes:
- To add a passkey, open a supported web browser and go to the Account security page in My Account.
- If prompted, enter a 2FA code using your existing 2FA method or a recovery code.
- In the Sign in section > Passkey, click Add.
- If prompted, complete a 2FA check, then click Continue.
- Click Create a passkey.
- Choose where to save your passkey (for example, your device, browser or password manager), then follow the prompts to add the passkey.
- When the confirmation message appears, close the passkey page to return to Account security. The new passkey is listed in the Sign in > Passkey section. You’ll also receive an email confirming you’ve set up a passkey.
Once you've added a passkey, you can choose it as a sign-in option when you sign into Solo with your MYOB ID.
Will Passkeys work on your device? 📱
Good question. We've pulled together a full compatibility breakdown in this Help article — go take a look before you get started.
Still on a device without a Passkey set up? No stress! You can still sign in the usual way with your password and multi-factor authentication (MFA) code.
What makes Passkeys that good? 🛡️
Passwords can be stolen, guessed, or tricked out of you. Passkeys can't. Here's why:
- They only work on genuine MYOB sign-in pages and apps. A fake site won't get a look-in.
- There's nothing for scammers to steal, a Passkey isn't a code you can read, write down, or accidentally tell someone.
- Even if someone knows your email and password, they'd still need your actual device AND your face, fingerprint, or PIN to get in.
What about my 2FA codes?
Nothing's changing there. Your 2FA (whether that's an authenticator app or SMS code) stays exactly as it is. Think of it this way:
- Passkey = phishing-resistant proof that it's you
- 2FA code = an extra safety layer that keeps your account ATO compliant
One small extra step. A much bigger safety net.
The TL;DR
Passkeys replace passwords with secure, device-based sign-in. They're tough to phish, quick to set up, and keep your business records protected from scams that keep getting smarter. Your MFA stays in place too. So it's just an upgrade, not an overhaul.
Go set yours up. Future you will be relieved you did. 😌
