Extracting old data

Hi. I have MYOB files from 2000-2001 that I need to retrieve some data from. Is that even possible any more? Is there any program that will just pull the text out of it so I can see what was paid for a couple of items? Thanks!

    Hi brpubs

Sorry, as I mentioned I'm not familiar with Mac. As far as I know, desktop versions only worked up to the Mohave operating system and I don't know if the version you are using would upgrade the old file. I am pretty sure none of the online versions are compatible with desktop versions (except for Windows AccountRight). The operating system cross compatibility I mentioned is for Windows and Mac so not applicable here. FGH Tables is a third part provider that many of us on the Forum use and recommend for these unusual situations where MYOB may not be able to help. https://www.fghtables.com/myob/conversionservices.php

    Cheers

Thanks so much, Liz. I did get in touch with fghtables.com. Conclusion seems to be that the file must have become corrupted somehow. I had two other files from the same period that I was able to open with AccountEdge by adding a .myo extension to them, but this one didn't work this way and fghtables said it wasn't identifiable as an MYOB file. Oh well... Thanks for trying to help!

        Hi brpubs

Sorry to hear this. Not much else can be done unless you find other backups for a similar period.

        Cheers

    Hi brpubs

It is likely that this has been recorded in something like MYOB v12 or earlier. You should be able to download MYOB v19 from here https://www.myob.com/au/support/downloads?srsltid=AfmBOorrbibH1rwLGUNaXz0aPCrDzHoAKIBqAKiiDgspBLvNCx8_xtxe&page=1 (I recommend v19.11.3), and use this to open the .dat file. If you right click on the file and say Open With and choose v19, then it will ask if you want to upgrade the file and once you have done this, you can mark it read only and look at the entries in the file.

    Cheers

Hmm. So I had the Mac version of MYOB. The only MYOB software I see to download is an exe file, so it won't work on a Mac. Any ideas on how to finesse that? Thanks!

        Hi brpubs

Some of the older versions were compatible across the different platforms but I'm not sure if this would work for the really old files. If you are still using Mac and have upgraded your IOS, then you may not be able to use MYOB on it (except for online versions). I'm not familiar with Mac generally, so can't advise much on this. If you are really needing a solution quickly, then maybe it's worth contacting FGH Tables to see if they can assist - third party but their fees are reasonable and my clients and I have used their services for a number of years without any issues.

        Cheers

Thanks so much!! A couple of questions. Where would I fine an online version of MYOB... and, since I'd originally owned the MYOB software for Mac but, over the years, that's evolved into a subscription for AccountEdge, would I be able to use the online MYOB? And second, what's FGH Tables?
