Is there a way to add a client to more than 1 portal as it doesn't like to use the same email address. Need a client on more than one portal and don't seem to be able to do this. In some cases only require as contributor.

Yes you can add a user/email address to multiple portals as either user or contributor.
If you wish to add them to another portal, or re add them to an existing portal, under the Add User or Add Contributor option, in the blank line next to the magnifying glass type in the users name, First name etc. You will then be able to select them for the list to add to your porta. You can do the same if you wish them to be a contributor.
Email addresses for users/contributors can only be created once via the Create New User/contributor option. If you try to use the Create User option for an existing email address you will receive an error email is not unique and the user name linked to the email address. So search for this name per the above notes.
