Is MYOB ever going to development an attachment feature? I have used a different program in the past where whilst entering in a Creditor's Invoice, i could scan the document to my computer, save it, then attach it to the program data for that invoice. Came in really usefull with interstate offices where one needed to see the actual invoice rather than just the data entry. Also great for scanning associated quotes and documentation relating to the purchase of the goods. Excellent too for us small business users who have the chance to actually run a 'paperless' office.

Many online cloud accounting platforms allow you to attach a PDF to any transaction. This means you can spend money, attach a receipt or invoice etc. MYOB limits you to purchases where a creditor must be raised etc. Why is this so important, in our opinion?
The power of cloud is the online sharing of information. I open a set of accounts see something was paid with a CC, say $15 and with a click I can see the receipt. MYOB forces you to create a creditor, raise a bill and then pay it. Very time wasting.
We are a fully paperless office and promote to and as a result tend to attract clients with a similar outlook to office admin systems. In our office, as well as more than a few of our clients, tagging PDF's with key information happens every day. Example, $100 is spent at Harvey Norman. Reception scans and tags the receipt with a short audio tag (takes only a few seconds to do) that explains something about the payment. Someone using MYOB then can not only access the receipt but gets details as well.
We see MYOB as a cloud based accounting driven database - our clients want to find things in MYOB as a first port of call. Example, looking for details on an insurance policy. Go to MYOB look for the payment and attached in the PDF that contains the receipt and the policy PDS. Again because we are paperless many of our PDF's tell a story and MYOB then becomes the place where you find it. With this in mind the easier it is to attach to anything the better.

Thanks for that - try and get some of your colleagues to post. Too many accountants and bookkeepers are so busy they do not spend much time thinking about what is happening with technology and software automation. Companies like MYOB, if their IT guys knew a bit more about what it is like being an accountant etc at the coal face, could help a lot in helping us run better accounting systems.

This is a great idea. We send contracts with the invoices for small demolition works and this would save us a great amount of hassle in trying to format the myob invoices to include this information. We could then simply attach a better outlined contract form with the invoice.

Check out the new SmartBills and Documents InBox features in MYOB Essentials, added last week.
I expect similar features will be coming to AccountRight soon.
Also have a look on the Add-Ons page, at Invitbox and Shoeboxed.
This area is moving fast - as are our competitors at Xero and Intuit Australia.

Agreed, the ability to attach images or pdf's to transactions will be an invaluable solution to rifling through files looking for the paper version.
especially receipts, invoices, insurance certificates etc
Getting receipts out of tradesman is like pulling teeth, taking a picture and emailing or texting so it can be uiploaded would be amazing!!!

Hi
I am using account right plus,
Wondering if possible, if you were able to scan the document from a scanner /or email and import the pdf and attach to customer file or invoice or receipt number etc thus allowing you to look in the one area for a copy of a document & all things related to a sale or purchase. It would be time and cost effective and easy for the accountant and the tax audit trail or is there something that does this all now and I am behind?
Also multiple email or cc area's. also being able to attached a document to a sale invoice or remittance.

Is there going to be a smartbills feature in AccountRight just like Essentials, where key information is extracted from the receipt document once scanned into MYOB?
If this is being developed is there an estimate for a release date yet?

Hi Kev-EAP
Thank you for your enquiry in relation to this idea.
Correct, we are planning to release a similar feature to MYOB Essential's Intray with AccountRight 2014 for files in the cloud.
We don't have a release date as of today, however it is marked on the product road map to be released as part of the AccountRight 2015 updates due out this year.
