You may have seen the recent announcement from the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) about changes to surcharging that will affect how businesses manage card fees. If you accept card payments, here’s what you need to know and how we’ll help you prepare. What’s changing From 1 October 2026, eftpos, Visa, Mastercard and Amex will be introducing new rules to no longer permit businesses to surcharge card fees on domestic payments, including debit, prepaid, and credit cards. For businesses, this means card fees can no longer be passed on to customers as a surcharge on any payments made after the changes take effect. Hi everyone! Great news! You can now ask Claude or ChatGPT questions about your business and get read-only answers straight from your real MYOB data, right where you are already working. It’s rolling out now to selected customers. What is our connector in Claude and plugin in ChatGPT? Hi everyone! You may have seen the news: the Holidays Act 2003 is on its way out. The new Employment Leave Act 2026 received Royal Assent on 6 August 2026 and will replace it, with most of the new framework coming into force on August 2028. We know that's a while off, but given how long this reform has been talked about, we wanted to get ahead of the questions. The short version: Annual and sick leave move to an hours-based accrual system, tied to standard hours worked Working hours are split into standard, additional and casual categories A new Leave Compensation Payment (12.5% of ordinary hourly rate) applies to hours that don't accrue leave in the usual way Public holiday tests, pay statements and record-keeping requirements are all getting clearer rules We've put together a full breakdown here: The Employment Leave Act 2026 – a replacement for the NZ Holidays Act 2003 Nothing changes in your payroll today – the current Holidays Act still applies until the new Act takes effect. Our product and payroll teams are already working through what this means for MYOB's payroll solutions, and we'll post updates here as the guidance from MBIE and Employment New Zealand develops. Got questions? Drop them below and we'll do our best to answer, or point you to where the detail lives once it's confirmed.50Views0likes0CommentsEmail 2FA is being removed. Here’s how to stay ahead of it
Hi everyone! From September 2026, new customers and customers resetting their 2FA setup will no longer be able to use email as a 2FA method. If you already use email as a 2FA method today, you won’t lose access right away. We’re planning to fully decommission email 2FA for existing customers in 2027. We’re making this change because email is a weaker security option. If someone gets access to your inbox, they may also be able to access security codes or reset links. To avoid disruption later, we strongly recommend updating your sign-in setup now. The best setup is: a passkey for the fastest sign-in experience an authenticator app as your primary 2FA method SMS as your backup 2FA method If you use passkeys, you can set up to 5 across different devices. You can also make them platform-based, so if you save one in your password manager, iCloud Keychain or Google account, it can be available across multiple devices. That gives you more than one way back in if your main device is unavailable. If you’re using email 2FA today, now’s a good time to switch rather than wait for the 2027 decommissioning. Check out this page for more information and instructions!107Views0likes1CommentPasskeys now give you a faster sign-in experience
Hi everyone! Signing in with a passkey just got simpler. You can now use a passkey without completing a separate two-factor authentication (2FA) challenge after sign-in. That’s because a passkey is already a strong form of authentication, built into your device through Face ID, your fingerprint, or your device PIN. What this means for you: faster sign-in less to remember strong protection against phishing and account takeover A quick thing to know: you should still keep your other security methods set up in My Account. We recommend: an authenticator app as your primary 2FA method SMS as your backup 2FA method That’s important because you’ll still need 2FA to make changes to your security settings in My Account. If passkeys are available to you, now’s a good time to set one up. You can set up to 5 across different devices, which gives you more than one way back in if your main device is unavailable. You can also make them platform-based, so if you save one in your password manager, iCloud Keychain or Google account, it can be available across multiple devices. Hi everyone! We’re seeing more questions about whether super payments are reaching employee funds within the new Payday Super timeframe. If you’re feeling a bit anxious about that, you’re not alone. This is a major industry-wide shift from a quarterly super process to a much tighter one tied to each payday. From 1 July 2026, super contributions need to reach an employee’s super fund within 7 business days of payday. That is a big change from the old quarterly rhythm, so it’s natural that businesses, payroll teams, clearing houses and super funds are all adjusting to the new pace. It’s also important to keep the ATO’s first-year compliance approach in perspective. The key theme is genuine effort and prompt resolution, not perfection on day one. Employers who are trying to do the right thing and who fix issues quickly are not the primary focus of compliance action in the first year. What matters most for employers The most practical steps are still the most important ones: Submit super on or as close to payday as possible. Remember the timing starts from when it is authorised and this needs to be before 4pm to count as day 1. Make sure employee fund details are accurate and up to date, because errors are one of the most common causes of delays and rejected payments. Check payment status in MYOB and act quickly if something needs attention. Leave enough time for the full payment journey, not just the authorisation step. Why a payment may not appear in a fund straight away A payment reaching a super fund and appearing in an employee’s account are not always the same moment. After a payment is authorised, it still moves through bank and clearing house processing. Once it reaches the fund, the fund may still need time to reconcile and allocate that contribution to the member account. That means there can be a gap between payment being sent and the contribution being visible in the employee’s super account. On the fund side, allocation timing can still affect what people see and when they see it. It is also worth noting, that it is reasonable to expect that there will be late payments, the system as a whole is adjusting to this change. Regardless of the bank, software, clearing house, super fund etc involved. On comparisons with other providers We know some customers are comparing processing times across different providers right now. What’s worth remembering is that end-to-end timing depends on more than the payroll software alone. Bank cut-offs, clearing house processing, fund receipt, fund reconciliation and employee fund detail accuracy all play a part. So while comparisons are understandable, the more useful question is whether you’re authorising promptly, using correct employee fund details, and checking statuses early enough to fix issues fast. When to get support involved As a whole, please give the system time to adjust to this change. You only control payment and authorisation, and the ATO's first-year approach is based on genuine effort - so there's no cause for alarm right now. If it's been a few weeks and you're still seeing issues or have concerns, that's the point to reach out to support rather than waiting it out further. Hi everyone, If you have employees with self-managed super funds (SMSFs), there's something you need to check before your next pay run. A number of SMSF electronic service address (ESA) providers closed before 1 July 2026 — including SuperChoice (SMSF), CFSCSSMSF, ClearviewSMSF, MercerSMSF, and AUSPOSTSMSF. An ESA is the address an SMSF uses to receive super contributions through SuperStream. If an employee's SMSF is still linked to one of these closed providers, their super payment will fail. What you need to do Your employee (as SMSF trustee) will need to get a new ESA from an ATO-registered provider and send you their updated fund details — ABN, BSB, account number, and new ESA. Once you have those, create a new SMSF record in MYOB with the updated details. Existing SMSF records can't be edited, so it does need to be a new one. If you haven't paid yet: process your other employees now and pay the affected employee separately once their new SMSF record is set up. If a payment has already failed: reverse the batch, reprocess it without the affected employee, then pay them separately once the new SMSF is ready. Your employee can use this ATO page to find an approved ESA provider and keep their details up to date: Is your ESA up to date? (ato.gov.au) For the steps in MYOB: Reversing a super payment → Adding an SMSF → If you're not sure whether this affects any of your employees, check your employee SMSF records and look for ESAs from the providers listed above.
