Thanks Mike for your suggestion. We’ll give Server Edition a try, as the browser version doesn’t completely meet our needs.
We have multiple users working in the online file, and we use offline backups to review historical data - particularly in case any inadvertent changes are made to the live file.
Just to clarify my original question: after 17 June, we won't be able to restore an offline backup as a local file on our PC?
Hi mkwendt , after the 17th June, there are 2 options for restoring an offline back.
- Use server edition (will allow you to both view and use the file ongoing)
- Install an older version of PC edition (will allow you to both view and use the file, but will auto update so this is something you will need to do repeatedly)
The best thing would be to have PC edition, operating in the latest version, for running your online file/s
And concurrently have server edition for running/accessing your offline files/backups

Hi Mike.
So anything we do to the online file will not be recorded in the server edition. Anything we do to the server edition file wont be recorded in the online file. Is this correct? ie, to keep the files the same, we will need to input data into each of them; double-handling. Is this a correct interpretation?
Thanks,
Vicki

Hi vicki ,
If you only have 1 file, and you are actively using it online, then there should ultimately be no need to restore an offline back up of that same file.
However, if there was a need for you to do this, restoring an offline back, would presumably only be to view the data in the backup, and not to use it (eg enter transactions).
When you have your file online, if you want to review previous financial years/historical records, this can be done by access in the browser. An 'online' AccountRight file can be accessed both through the desktop application, and in the browser.
There are some differences to get used to between the desktop and browser, but one of these is that desktop locks previous financial years (meaning customers often have to restore a backup to view these) but in the browser you can simply change the date and there are no restrictions.Online AccountRight files also have automated cloud backups taken every 7 days with the option of taking a cloud backup at any point in time, just how you would with an offline backup. These cloud backups can be restored by an administrator.

We go to remote areas occasionally where internet is patchy or non-existent. If we use the offline file while there, we need to get the work done in that offline file into the online file. We used to be able to update the online file from the offline file to achieve this. Will this now not be possible without reentering everything onto the online file?
