Blog Post
So we have just received this email outlining "secure invoicing" changes.
Reading it in detail it just seems to be a financial product bundled into "secure invoicing". There is no denying it, it is clear as daylight.
As a business to business, we have no need for this service and will not be supplying our information. This change is NOT welcome.
Further:
Myob plans keep increasing in price and then you have a new product bundled as "secure invoicing" for further fees. To add to this ACCC has a guidline for transaction fees to be in the range of 0.5 to 1.5%, but MYOB has decided to go against that and charge 1.8% + 25c
Regardless, making this a default ON is WRONG and extremely worrying.
On an invoice that may be $20000, 1.8% is $360. That is $360 that someone will be out of pocket. So if it is on by default and it is not charged out to customer, that is $360 that the business would be out of pocket. Sure as hell customer wouldn't be paying it.
It seems that you have done the study on the wrong kind of business. One doing small level retail transactions, much like point of sale, and not considered the ones who do business to business larger invoice transactions. It seems to be a select group involved.
The level of information you are asking for is concerning. Many businesses have already been required by the banks to verify their identity in order to keep banking services, this identity request by MYOB is unnecessary.
The fact that you are disabling email invoice feature if you do not upgrade is disgusting. Email invoice feature should not be disabled as it is irrelevant to "secure payments".
And seriously dividing businesses into "verified" and "non verified" ? Really? MYOB has all our required details. We have already been verified. We are a registered business. We do have ABN/ACN, whatever may apply.
It seems that MYOB is using these tactics as a "bargaining chip" and a blatant denial of paid for service.
I highly recommend MYOB has last minute changes that are extremely important:
1. Make this a purely optional feature without "verified" and " unverified" tags placed on businesses
2. Remove the default ON for online payments/ secure invoicing features
3. Retain email invoicing feature even if not opted in
So far, it seems that MYOB is heading in a very wrong direction, it needs to steer back away from perpetual growth through price gouging and business shaming. Focus on getting more clients instead, which isn't something you will do with current approach in place.
edit:
Just to add to this email, going through your privacy policy there are couple of points which are concerning as well. These points leave an open ended right to policy which essentialy mean," we can do whatever we want with your information for whatever we need to, and can not guarantee its safety as it is often shared with an overseas entity that does not comply with Australian privacy laws"
