Mike_MYOB So what happens if we decide to leave MYOB?
How do we access our data historically?
Hi Nathan_Grafton , it would depend on when a business leaves. If they have had their file online though, then report packs via the browser provide excellent options for exporting/downloading your data for audit and record keeping purposes.
There is also the option for requesting a server backup retrieval from MYOB for $49.95, which would provide the equivalent of an offline backup.
TL:DR
- Offline files can still take offline backups in Server Edition 2026.5
- Online files can export data via report packs in the browser
Thanks Mike_MYOB. I'm not saying we are, but always like to keep our options known and the limitations if we do decide one day to move to something else.
We have been online for a while, but like others we've been bitten by the turning off of Offline Backups.
Not that I'm prepared to pay $50 to do something we could do ourselves until last week, but if we WERE to request a server backup retrieval, would it be usable offline with server edition, or would opening it overwrite the current file like restoring an online backup does now?
Browser reports are not an option when you use features that don't exist in the browser.Hi H-TS , because there is no subscription or online capability in Server Edition the files you open are not consuming anything.

I meant is the file that would be retrieved using this process a file that is compatible with Server Edition, or would it still be an online only file? I assumed it's an option for retrieving data from an online file, at a point in time. I thought I read somewhere that the online backups are only stored for 6 months. Or is this server retrieval option only available for files that are being used offline with server edition (which doesn't seem to make sense even as I type it, but then it's EOFY and my brain is mush)?
I'm still hoping for a backflip on this decision. It has done my head in rolling to a new financial year with no offline read only backup for that previous financial year. I'm sure it's not, but at the moment, it feels like the riskiest thing I've done in my career.
Our file has been online for years, and I don't mind that aspect of it. The removal of the offline backup option is another story.
Not that we're looking at cancelling our subscription yet, but the ease of accessing data after ending the subscription was one of the plus points for staying with MYOB.
EDIT: I can see that you've mostly answered my question already in your reply to Nathan. So basically, the $50 server retrieval option is still not going to do what we've lost the ability to do.

Or do you mean, at the time you ask for the server backup retrieval, how old/how many historical backups are available to you?
I'll answer both, but let me know if you perhaps meant something else.- How long will this service be offered? Indefinitely, I can see no reason that we would stop offering this as a service. While we have online only software, that has data stored on MYOB servers, the ability to request a copy of this will remain.
- How old are the backups available when I make the request? Backups are (currently*) kept for 6 months. An automatic backup is taken once every 7 days, and customers can also take a point in time backup at any time as well. When a customer requests a server backup retrieval, any backup made within the last 6 months can be retrieved.
On your second question - at what point will server edition not accept these backups?
- This will happen next month once PC edition 2026.6 is released. After this, it will not be possible to open a file that has been used in a version higher than Server Edition 2026.5 without a subscription.
- The backups can be requested from MYOB and retained/stored by customers.
- We do offer a 'read only' subscription at a low cost, in a situation where a business has closed for example, and then they need to view the backup for audit purposes, they would be able to take this subscription to view their offline backup.
- In the situation where a customer still has an active online file, viewing historical data can be done via the browser.
It is worth noting that Accountright no longer "rolls over". As long as you have access to your online file, all data can be audited. The need for an offline backup would no longer be needed other than data disaster recovery.
"Other than data disaster recovery" - that right there, is the clincher, and the reason I want the file.

please advise as to why, when I click on a link in an email from the forum, do i now get an access denied message? I am screen shooting this as I feel I am being bullied now by MYOB for having a negative opinion of what is being done to us all. I have also said the below, and it says in review. Why is it in review please? MYOB users need to be able to communicate their options over this situation.
