A Refreshable Trial Balance Data Table from MYOB (SQL Data Link or Alternatives)

Hi All

I was just wondering if anyone had heard or come across a way that they were using "refreshable" data tables (SQL or otherwise) to extract relevant data from their MYOB Accounting software package to then be used in Excel to create reports etc.

Link: Using MYOB Add-In Tool for Excel

I have come across this link on the MYOB website whereby you can use an MYOB Add-In tool for Excel to enable you to extract relevant data from your Accounting software.

Has anyone in the community used or experienced this and if "Yes" what was it like?

I would like our Finance team to be able to create an automated refreshable Trial Balance data set from which our end of month Balance Sheet & reporting pack can pull from a single set data source of truth.

If anyone in the community is currently using this kind of functionality with their current system I would be very appreciated to hear from you to explain how I might be able to achieve this outcome.

Note: Currently my company is using

Product: MYOB AccountRight Plus AU (Cloud Based Platform)

Version: 2025.4.1.4

Warmest Regards

  • Hi Ross,

I have tried the excel add-in previously, but found that not all of the fields and views that I wanted were available. It may have improved since then, I'm not sure.

I am starting to look into Power BI and have just downloaded a free trial for Odatalink's MYOB to Power BI connector. Early days but at first try it worked well, you use the odata url as a data source and can refresh on demand.  I have only tried it with Sales Orders so far. There are some settings relating to the caching and page size, if you have a large data file and performance is an issue. I can see they also have templates available, eg this one for a trial balance which looks similar to what you are looking for. https://odatalink.com/templates/trial-balance-power-bi-reports-for-myob/

I'm not sure how familiar you are with Power BI and Power Query but I'm currently doing an introductory course on Linkedin learning and I'm getting quite excited about what I will be able to do with it, especially if this MYOB connector works reliably. :)

    All the best, Louisa
