Solved

No location specified; default location cannot be substituted due to insufficient quantity.

Recently had a file converted from v19.16 to AR 2025.4 and if we try and Import a Sales Item file we get the following message:

Summary of errors
Error -232: No location specified; default location cannot be substituted due to insufficient quantity.

Thing is, we don't have Inventory turned on for any item in the file but this is blocking us from loading any sales data into the file. The file is pretty clean and shouldn't have too much of v19.16 baggage.

Anyone experienced similar?

  • This has now been resolved thanks to J on support. Simple in the end, somewhere along the update line the handling was changed slightly on the Location ID field, so to ignore location based inventory checks we needed to uncheck that field on the upload.

    Hi bti,

If you ran into a bit of a snag when importing items into AccountRight and got hit with the dreaded "No location specified. Default location cannot be substituted due to insufficient..." error, you’re not alone.

Turns out you’ll need to make sure a location is specified in your import file for each item line – even if you’re only using one location!

I found this other thread super helpful 👉 Import Data Error 232 - Location

    I hope this helps!

    Regards,
    Earl

Will give it a shot. Although that was the first thing I tried, ie create the same invoice via the front end,. export it then change the invoice number and import and the import failed again.
