Original software Accounting Plus/Premier Pro

I have been given a number of different conflicting answers to this question via OS call centre support personnel, so I thought here may be a better place to ask the question.

I started using MYOB around 2004/2005. I still have the original software that I purchased. I understand that MYOB may no longer support the software but if I choose to use it, what chance is there of the data file being able to be read by the software, I would suggest very little chance. So in order to use the software, the datafile would need to be started again from scratch or at the very least imported manually. Correct?

Apart from this and other obvious lack of features (single touch, etc). There is nothing stopping a person from using that software with the licence key that was purchased outright, correct?

  • Hi Project-Z

I'm assuming you are referring to Classic MYOB software purchased with a Perpetual Licence. If so, it will still work as long as the files you are using it with have been confirmed and are the same version as the software. If you want to change from more recent software (in order to stop your subscription), you won't be able to revert the current file but you MAY be able to create a new file in the original version and enter data/balances to continue with. The problem you could have is the number of file IDs you were allowed to create with your Perpetual Licence. You can test whether you can start a new file by creating one, then logging out and then logging back in and seeing if you can Confirm the file. The other option that works, is to find one of your original files and copy it and then clear balances and rollover the year end to the date you wish to start recording from. You can still do this for a different business to your original business but you will need to check the name is changed for all fields that use the business name, including on emails for invoices, statements, etc. There can be other issues, particularly with recent versions of Windows but it does work so keep coming back and asking here and other Forum users who have a lot of experience should be able to assist.

NB If you are on Windows 11 you may not be able to install MS Office as a 32 Bit and this could impact links from MYOB but there are workarounds.

    Cheers

    Liz
