MYOB Practice Tax - Slow & Laggy

Have just started using MYOB Practice Tax and have done a couple of individual returns in it and I am ready to throw my computer across the room with how slow & laggy it is doing a return online.

I start typing something into a schedule and it then slowly one letter by one letter appears on the screen.  If I have made a mistake I then have to wait for what I have typed to slowly scroll across the screen and can then watch as it slowly deletes letter by letter.

Then if I want to move to the next box I need there is a 5-10 second delay before I can type anything.

Trying to use a drop down menu is another 5-10 second delay for the drop down items to show up so I can select something

It is driving me mad.

Is anyone else having problems with it being stupidly slow or is it a problem at my end.  As we have superfast internet I don't see how it could be a problem at my end.

It is taking me half an hour to process an individual tax return (mainly due to having to wait between every single thing I do for MYOB to catch up) that would normally take 10 minutes tops if that.

  • Yes, it is absolutely unusable in its current state. The auto-recalculating of taxable income and the tax estimate grinds the system to a halt every time you change a data field. Absolute waste of time.

Of course, MYOB will blame your computer when the real culprit is poor programming and design decisions

I absolutely agree with Beck25, slow and laggy. I also agree with ch3 - no need for a live auto recalculation every time an item is entered. Simple returns take much longer. This is the second year we have attempted to move our Ind ITR's to Practice Tax - I'm thinking we will wait another year for MYOB to iron out the wrinkles if no better we will move on.

Already using Chrome and tried clearing the cache this morning but didn't help.  Just timed how long it took to enter a line on the donations schedule.  Started my timer, typed The Salvation Army and then 100 and then clicked add gifts or donations so I could add another donation and it took 35s before the next line popped up for me to type in.  In 35s I could have entered all 5 donations in the old tax.

    Will lodge a support request.

  • I am finding the same issues as noted above. Chorme is not the issue. The page refresh speeds are terribly slow, and data is often not saving requiring mutiple re-entries. Additionally the rollover process from AO desktop version to the online platform is inconsistent in populating the online version. Terribly unproductive. On the up side I like design on the online interface.

  • Hey Beck25

Which web browser are you using MYOB Practice Tax on? We tend to recommend Google Chrome as it's the most compatible with MYOB products. I'd recommend clearing your cache as well to see if that improves performance but if you continue to experience slow performance, you'll be able to log a support case from your MYOB Practice dashboard by selecting the "?" icon underneath your profile on the bottom left.

  • We have just actually got brand new computers and it is a lot faster now.  However by the afternoon it slows down again - not as bad as it was, but when you are a fast typer it is still tedious waiting for it to catch up.  And also for one of my first returns, a basic individual return with a lump sum super payment got 2 validation errors telling me I had to complete a item but also shouldn't complete that item.  Logged a support call and spent 1 hour & 36 minutes on phone with MYOB on Friday afternoon and still not fixed - they are calling me back to day!!

They didn't call me back on the Monday and I was on annual leave from the Tuesday for 2 weeks.  Got back to my support call having being closed & replied to email to reopen on Monday 11 August.  By the time MYOB got back in contact on Tuesday 19 August we had made the decision to give up on online tax.  Reprocessed the return in desktop software with no errors and took 5 minutes to process.  The online process had cost us over 2 hours for this client.

  • Hey everyone!

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. The team are looking at improving the performance of data entry, opening schedules and worksheets at the moment. I'll make sure to update this space when I've got another update!
