You're absolutely right, items in Solo are always entered as GST exclusive. The GST display toggle on the invoice itself only controls how the tax is shown to your customer (inclusive or exclusive), but it doesn’t change how you enter the amounts. So even if you toggle to "GST Inclusive" on the invoice, you’ll still need to manually enter the item prices excluding GST.
We completely agree with you, this has been a real pain point for a few users. When we first released Solo, we had a slightly different approach to GST settings, but after a bunch of feedback we made changes to improve the display. Unfortunately, those updates didn’t solve the issue for everyone.
The ability to enter GST inclusive item prices is something we know would make a big difference. While I don’t have a confirmed timeline just yet, I can say this is sitting firmly in our top 3 most requested features, right alongside browser access and quotes.
