ABN in Western Australia

My sole trading business has a Western Australian ABN. Due to MyID not recognising Western Australian birth certificates and myself not having a passport to provide more than standard identification when attempting to log into the ABR to change my details, MYOB is going to basically stop my business from trading.

Are there any ways to bypass this ridiculousness, or do I need to wait until tax time and get our Accountant to do that for us? We would like to operate within the laws provided but are getting to the point of wondering why we should.

Note: We service lawns for a couple of retired (DVA) veterans, and private individuals and have been doing so for a number of years

(side note: this is a lawn mowing business, it's mobile, and we're (("we're" meaning the wife who is writing this for free, and myself being the one providing the actual service)) not terrorists).

example of identification needed:

Sole Trader

A person trading in their own name or a registered business name

Details we’ll check

  • Identification of Sole Trader/ ABN Holder
  • Australian Business Number (ABN)
  • Registered Business Name (where applicable)
  • Principal Place of Business Address

Documents we’ll ask for

  • Identification of Sole Trader
  • Identification of persons acting on behalf of the business

    Hi warrencapewell,

Thanks for explaining the situation. I can understand why you’d be feeling pretty fed up with it. From our side, we’re not able to bypass the business verification requirements, as those checks are part of the verification process tied to secure invoicing. If myID isn’t accepting your identification, the best next step would be to check with your accountant to see whether they can help update the ABN details on your behalf, or confirm the best way to get that changed through the ABR. If this is already affecting your MYOB account, reach out to our live chat support through our virtual assistant, MOCA, or submit a case via My Account, and we can take a closer look at what’s happening on our side.

    Regards,

    Sai
