Migrating AO to new PC with Win 11 - Back up data base - how?

Great stuff - thank you.

I am one man band and cannot afford the pricey MYOB migrating service - who can. So doing it myself. I do not know how to back up the AO data base from the old PC. The instruction would not appear on my browser, saying it was busy or unavailable.

I know one has to go to SQL and do something. Any one done it?

  • Hi Aiden. Just lost 3 graphics cards and possibly a couple of PC's in a recent PSU short/crash. So not happy. To put it bluntly looks like I screwed up the migration and now MYOB want me to pay a heap of money to fix it. I live in a remote mining town and there are no IT people capable of assistance. Can you or anyone help. All I can say is I have been paying for over 25 years and sick of paying MYOB any more. Yes MYOB will hate me for saying this, but many think the same thing. my email is - foxint@foxint.com.au.

  • Hi there foxint,

Thank you so much for your time on the phone today.

As discussed following the AO Migration article (https://practice-support.myob.com/supps/migrating-myob-ao-ao-classic-to-a-new-computer-or-) step 1 we first need to backup your SQL databases which you can do by following this article - https://practice-support.myob.com/supps/backing-up-an-sql-database-using-management-studio.

After the above you'll need to backup the ELS and SBR folders which you can do by opening windows explorer and navigating to the AOSQL\Tax\TA\<db_name> folder and coping the ELS and SBR folders.
Note: Where <db_name> is the name of the tax database i.e AOTAX1, AOTAX2 etc.

Please don't hesitate to reply to this if you have any further questions!

    Thanks,
    Aiden.
