It sounds like you’ve been wrestling with this PAYG difference between the Activity Statement and your MYOB reports for a while. The ATO will receive whatever figures are reported on the Activity Statement, but that doesn’t automatically mean it has already been under‑ or over‑reported.
To track down the cause, I’d suggest:
- First, make sure the reports you’re comparing use the same filters and date ranges. If the periods or filters differ, the numbers will rarely line up, and it can be very confusing.
- If the filters and dates all match, but it still doesn’t balance, start checking the individual figures behind each line. That can include drilling into the transactions that make up the PAYG amounts and reviewing all debits and credits to your PAYG liability account.
Going through the debits and credits one by one can be time‑consuming, but it’s often the quickest way to narrow down exactly where the variance is coming from.
