What is the name of the report that you're trying to run ? Or is it happening with every items report ?
It's a custom report.

If the custom report is not displaying anything, it might be due to corruption, please run the actual report, create the custom report again with the fields required and the correct data should be displayed.

I have tried this solution and found that the standard sales report - Analyse Sales [Item] does not work. Why would this be?

This can happen if there are transactions having items which are no longer marked as "I Sell". This can be identified by exporting items and seeing which ones have income accounts but no 'S' for I sell.
If you try to select some items and then run the report, it might work, but we are aware of this report not displaying any information in some circumstances and have raised it with the teams. We do not have an estimated time frame of when it will be fixed permanently but will post an update if we have further information.
