Income Type - Why Is This Not an Import Option?

Hi MYOB Team,

I’ve spent the entire day working through the rollover from Xero to MYOB. While there were a few hiccups, most issues were resolved through trial and error. However, one thing has me completely stumped — the inability to import the Income Type field when uploading employee card files.

There appears to be no way to match this field in the CSV import process. After reviewing several help articles and forum discussions, it seems Income Type is not currently supported for import, which is honestly quite frustrating. If I may be frank, this seems like a significant oversight and has cost me a lot of time.

I’ve just uploaded our first batch of 150 staff, with many more to follow. As I try to enable STP reporting, I’m being prompted to manually assign an income type for each employee — all 150 of them — because the system flags “Income Type is needed.”

Is this truly a system limitation and not user error? If so:

Why is this field not available for import?

Are there plans to change this in the near future?

At a minimum, could the system default the income type to "Salary and Wages" so only exceptions need updating?

I’d appreciate any clarification or suggested workarounds, as this is turning what should be a streamlined transition into a manual and time-consuming process.

Thanks in advance.

    Hi adzcas,

That’s some serious dedication putting in a whole day powering through the Xero to MYOB rollover. Income type doesn’t come across in the import from Xero because MYOB’s import feature leans towards the main data bits. The best way to get this on the radar for future updates is to pop your idea onto the AccountRight Ideas Exchange board. Feedback like yours gives our product team a proper nudge.

    Cheers,

    Doreen

Thanks Doreen, I will add it to ideas board...

I Didn't think it would be a full day but unfortunately MYOB don't make it as easy as I hoped it would be, especially when transferring data from multiple other platforms like Xero, Key Pay and rostering system  and having so many staff, clients etc to load up. Fingers crossed once it all done it should save more time then it has taken to set up. :-)
