Export to Excel - Some fields contain line breaks

In the last month or two (since early Sept) I note that some fields exported to excel now contain 'line breaks' aka 'carriage returns'.

My specific example is the Items Register [Detail] report, when exported to excel.  Some exported "Item Number"s or "Name"s of Items have a line break in the cell.

To replicate this manually, instead of typing "Item Number", you would type "Item Number + ALT ENTER"

It seem to only affect Item Numbers and Names that begin with a '0'.  So Item Number 12345 appears on one line in the cell, but item 01234 has a line break after it in the cell.

It is playing havoc with spreadsheets I use to further analyse reports.

    Hi AlexUldis,

That's a bit odd, especially when it affects how your spreadsheets line up. You might want to give this a go. Instead of using Alt + Enter, try using the Tab key when entering data. It can help avoid those line breaks showing up in Excel.

Hopefully one of our legends here in the Community also jumps in with another handy fix.

    Regards,

    Sai

    Hello Sai,

I am not using Alt+Enter, or entering the data.

The Line Break is added during the export process from MYOB to excel.

I was just explaining how to replicate the problem, but the problem is generated during the export process.

I have found a way to remove the Line Break during my further analysis in excel, but I don't think MYOB should be adding the line breaks to the exported data in the first place.  The fact that it only affects "Item Numbers" and "Names" starting with a "0", at that it only started occuring in the last 4 or 5 weeks, suggests to me that there is a bug in the export process.

    Hi

I am having the same issue with an export of employee card files.  A number of the lines have been broken up into 2 separate lines.  This seems to be happening in groups of employees, some are correct and some are broken,  and I haven't found out why.

Easiest way to solve this is to open the exported file in Notepad ++ (not Notepad) and replace \r using the find and replace feature (leave the replace field empty).

Save your file and it will import perfectly into Excel etc.

The issue is likely caused by someone pressing enter at the end of the address they typed into the system when registering as an employee.
