Cannot edit accounts to correct starting balances in MYOB Business Lite.

Hello,

I am really struggling with not being able to adjust and correct the “Current Balances” for majority of accounts.

Just so you understand how I am / have used MYOB Business Lite.

We used MYOB online for Single Touch Payroll only for the last 3 years and nothing else.

We had used an older MYOB v13 (yes, I know…very old) software that was installed on a dedicated PC here in our office which worked fine for all these years.

I upgraded our current MYOB to include Business Lite to commence for this financial and did so prior to 01-07-2023 (Financial year 2024).

I am experiencing several problems.

  1. Some header accounts had balances that I did not enter and cannot change, even if the sub accounts are changed.
  2. When I “Edit Accounts” > Enter Opening Balance in the associated account > Click Save > It says “account updated” but does not update the entered amount when the pages refreshes. If I click on the account and enter an “Opening Balance” and save it, it does not update.
  3. When trying to enter changes in the Expenses accounts, I get an error, “Opening balances from a previous financial year may not be changed for P&L accounts.”

I am suspecting maybe because we upgraded from the STP which is still in our current MYOB business Lite.

I am hoping I can get a Level 2 tech support to Team View into my PC and see what I am experiencing.

I spent almost 4 hours two days ago with first level tech support who had no idea what to do. And advised I may have to wait up to 72 hours for someone to call me back.

At this stage I have not sent invoices for 5 weeks (2 weeks prior to EOFY to finish using MYOBv13 and finalise balances etc.) up to today and cannot send invoices from the new MYOB Business Lite until this accounts issue is resolved.

It is seriously really hurting my business now and need some help please.

Thank you, Philip.

  • I am experiencing a similar issue, no response at all from MYOB at all. I updated beginning balances but it registers as a zero opening balance in account reports but a much larger figure in the balance sheet at the same time if I backdate the balance sheet to the same date. There are no transactions as it predates my migration from account edge to the new software which is identical to yours.

    Hi, Ampcom

    Thanks for your post.

Generally, the header account is the total amount of each detailed account so it cannot be changed as it only changes depending on the figures or balance that the detailed account has. Also, when updating opening balances, it can be updated depending on how transactions are recorded against the account. You may also check The Help Article: Entering opening balances for further information on your concern. We highly recommend as well speaking with your accountant regarding the issue.

Please let us know if you require further assistance with this.

    Best regards,

    Doreen

    Hi Ampcom

I just wanted to follow up on this. May I know how you go about the issue? If you still need assistance with this, please feel free to post again. One of us will be here to assist you.

    Thanks,

  • Still no help with resolving this issue, it has been passed up to the next level of support, I hope I find help soon, it has been very slow so far. The file I am speaking of was rolled over from an Account Edge standalone file. The issue boils down to the balance of the account changing on a particular day post dating the opening date but predating any transactions without any evidence of a transaction and no way of removing said amount without some "creative" accounting. I have not rolled over a financial year yet.

A simple spreadsheet can add up figures in account and come to a correct balance, I have used MYOB software for well over 20 years as standalone programs without significant problems, this is my first experience of  cloud based software. The experience of amounts of money suddenly appearing in an account with no transactions to account for it is simply horrifying.
