I'm sorry for any frustration caused by this announcement, this decision wasn’t made lightly.
We understand that transitions like these can raise important questions, especially around licensing and long-term access. I can assure you that these changes are aligned with the applicable MYOB Terms of Use, which allow for the discontinuation of legacy products as technology evolves. We’ve taken similar steps in the past with other legacy software to ensure our customers are supported by modern, secure platforms.
While older versions of AccountRight were offered under a perpetual license, this license grants the right to access the software indefinitely, but it does not guarantee ongoing support, updates, or activation services. MYOB customers agree to the terms of use at the point of purchase or installation, not via a signed contract. The AccountRight Terms of Use include a clause under the “Term” section stating: “In the event that the publisher deems this product to be redundant, then the publisher may at its option supply you with an alternative product and terminate this license agreement.”.
An alternative solution will likely be necessary for businesses who are still operating, this does not have to be with MYOB, but if you’d like to explore MYOB Business or AccountRight as a replacement, we can guide you through the options and migration process.

I can understand MYOB no longer supporting an older product etc, but I will say I have an issue with turning our files into read only. I will be going back to the original terms of use we have to confirm if that is allowed. One would expect a perpetual licence would also include activation to use said software.
I am sure the terms allow us to look at injunctive relief if we need to go that path

Why does the file need to be confirmed ? What happens during this process ?
V19 has not had any software updates etc.. and if you want to run it locally on your pc (Off line) what's the drama?
How can the "safely support" comment apply?
Myob are just getting greedy and trying to force us to a subscription
Ryan, try to explore a third party provider for the confirmation codes at a fraction of the price of a MYOB subscription.

The Activation and Confirmation process previously existed to validate 2 things, that the product and version matched what was purchased, and that the owner of the file also matched our system.
The confirmation process is tied into the overall ecosystem that supports these legacy products which is being decommissioned. MYOB is unable to continue safely supporting these products by maintaining the now outdated platforms and technology they were built on, which includes the confirmation process.
Businesses who are still operating this software do not have to take on an MYOB subscription, there are other options out there that people can move to.
Hey FuzzyAUS , I definitely understand where you are coming from.
It is not necessarily a decision that we are making to change the file to read only.
But because confirmations will no longer be supported, whenever the file next confirms after the decommission date, the file will then move to read only.
You're right that it was sold as perpetual however technology and compliance have moved on, and we can’t safely support it anymore.
My comment above that you have replied to outlines the T&Cs that align with this change.
