Remove Existing Category List

HI Community

In my current role i have control over a set of accounts for a Not For Profit organisation who can receive tax deductible donations from the Public.

When the accounts were setup (before my time) Two different Category lists were created - one for the main operation of the business and another labelled DGR (Deductible Gift Recipient) for any transactions such as donation and expenses that need to be reported to the Australian Charities and Not for  Profit Commission reporting. The field is live for 100% of transactions.

Since i have been here (2 and 1/2 years) I have only really used the category list to run a Category Activity detail report on our main bank account to identify any donations that have been banked into the main operating bank account and that need by law to be transferred across to the DGR Bank account.

All of my DGR projects have their own individual DGR job codes, so i can easily run monthly Job profit and loss reports or Job activity reports to determine how each job is progressing.

Currently the category list field is impeeding our ability to integrate our merchandise shop through our new Woo Commerce platform and CRM system Salesforce as it is not a field that the Woo Commerce plugin can accommodate - so therefore all of our merchandise orders will fail to integrate directly into MYOB.

I am thinking about deactivating the Category list field in my setup. I can just run a transaction report on my donations general ledger account and manually work out which donations were received in the main account and therefore need transferring - last month it was only 11 transations.

The additional hands on work required to do this will be considerably less than the time taken to deal with all of the merchandise transactions (more than 1000 individual transations each year) to get them into MYOB from Woo Commerce - Currently all merchandise transactions are keyed in MYOB then individually paid off in MYOB which is very labour intensive.

My question is, does anyone see any issues in turning off the Category list? Either for the current financial year or previous years records?

Many thanks in advance

Eric
