I'm sorry to see that no one has replied to you yet. The Help Article, Wage advances and employee loans, should assist you with scenario 1. Scenario 2 sounds more like a supplier prepayment as the contractor is not being paid as an employee. I would recommend checking scenario 2 with your accountant to make sure this is recorded correctly.
