Payroll - totals not agreeing STP YTD with payroll activity report

The payroll activity and payroll register report totals are more than (for one employee) the STP YTD report.  I can't see any issue for that employee that would cause that difference.

I don't know when the difference arose but assume that payroll information would have been sent since it arose but I don't understand why the STP totals are still less than MYOB.

Will sending an update event correct the STP totals? What if it doesn't?

  • Hi gpritch,

You’ve laid out the issue clearly, and when the STP YTD totals come in lower than what you’re seeing in the payroll activity and register reports for that employee, the first thing to check is whether every payroll category you’ve used has an ATO reporting category assigned. Even one unassigned category can cause STP to miss figures. If you’ve updated any of those categories, sending an update event is the right move because it pushes the corrected year‑to‑date amounts through. If the totals still don’t match after that, you’re welcome to reach out to our team or check this link on what to do when payroll reports don’t match. You can contact our team on Live Chat via our virtual assistant, MOCA, or by submitting a support case via My Account.

    Thanks Doreen

There was no problem with the payroll / ATO reporting categories.

I was able to identify the amount of the difference as related to the last six payrolls.  For the first three, the total of the employee's wages was equal to the amount of the difference.  For the last three payrolls (ie the most recent), the employee had no wages (ie they didn't work then).

I've now sent an update event and the STP YTD report totals now agree with MYOB, so all good now.

I still don't understand why the STP report wasn't previously including any of the amounts for that employee for the first three payrolls but I guess that doesn't matter.

    Regards

    Geoff
