Termination date for Casual worker

I am wanting to terminate a casual employee who never actually resigned. He has not worked for us for over 12 months, so I do not think he will be needed in the future. He had no entitlements owing as he wasn't with us for long. Do I need to run a zero dollar termination pay in the current financial year, or can I just terminate him? Does it matter what date is used for either of these things? Thanks, Julie

    Hi Nickisms,

    Thank you for your post.

Since the casual employee had no entitlements owing and hasn't worked for over 12 months, you can process an instant termination. The initial step would be to process a pay of $0 for this specific employee and record a termination date in the employee's card file. After completing these steps, you can proceed to notify the ATO about the termination date and finalize the employee. Please refer to this Hel article, Terminate an employee in Single Touch Payroll Reporting, which has detailed information to assist with this.

Please let me know if you require further assistance.

    Cheers,

    Princess
