BAS and PAYG payment matching issues

I'm wondering how I should enter or match my BAS payments when I use Pay Liability for the PAYG portion so that it clears the liability via the individual staff records?  Because we match the bank transactions for reconciling and the pay liability entry is not showing in the match windows I can't use the bank entry as it will be out of balance.

My spend money entries don't show in there for some reason as I have always traditionally entered them via that and reconcile on the desktop manually but the bank feed system doesn't quite work the same?

I hope this makes sense??

Actually I do use the bank feed option but I just don't actually create the file, it just makes sure the entry shows in the bank transaction page.  This is what the support team (tech team whoever it was) instructed me to do last time.  As I said I can make it work in one company file but not the other so it is definately possible.  Can I please get a support phone call request lodged so I can explain properly and demonstrate the issue.  I will be available between 10am and 12noon tomorrow on my contact phone listed in the account file.

    Hi Triggs

Those ATO refunds can definitely make recording transactions a bit complicated.

You can’t turn that bank feed line into an electronic payment because:

    • The ATO refund is money coming in (a deposit), and
    • Electronic payments/ABA files are only for money going out of the bank.

So instead of trying to force a negative Spend money from bank feeds, do this:

    1. Record the refund as a Receive Money
      • Go to Banking > Receive Money.
      • Choose the same bank account that the ATO money came into.
      • Split the amount between your GST, PAYG, and FTR credit accounts (your accountant/bookkeeper can confirm which exact accounts to use).
    2. Match it in bank feeds
      • Go back to Bank Transactions/Bank Feeds.
      • Find the ATO refund line.
      • Match it to the Receive Money you just created.
      •

That way, the refund hits the right liability/clearing accounts, and you can still tidy it up neatly in bank feeds.

    Regards,

Ok this is a oldie but a goodie - again having issues!  I have a refund payment from ATO made up of both GST in and out, PAYG as a serate pay liabilities transaction and a FTR credit.  The payg is showing in the bank transactions however when I try to enter the spend money it won't let me do a negative amount as a bank file so it shows up, and the recieve money doesn't have an electronic payment option so I can't create the file that way either.  The bank account allocated is correct but I just can't get the transaction to show in the online bank transaction page.

    Hey Triggs,

Yes, a spend money transaction should appear in the match section of the bank feed in the online version of AccountRight. Just make sure it's recorded against the bank account linked to the bank feed.

    Cheers,

    Doreen

    Hi there Triggs,

Bank feed transactions may not match pay liability entries due to a few possible reasons:

    • Manually reconciled transactions: If a transaction has already been ticked in the Reconcile Accounts window, it's considered reconciled. Unticking it will allow it to match the bank feed.
    • Amount mismatch: Even a small difference—like a cent—between the bank feed and pay liability entry will stop them from matching. Double-check the amount to make sure they match.
    • Wrong bank account: Bank feed transactions can only match the linked bank account. If the entry was recorded against a different account, it won't match—this often happens if the wrong account was selected when creating the transaction.

You can check the links below for more information.

If you encounter error messages while matching the bank feed transactions to pay liability entries, you can reach out to our support team directly on Live Chat via our virtual assistant, MOCA, or by submitting a support case via MyAccount.

    Cheers,

    Doreen
