Does Read Only Permission for a Role Override Read Write on Another Role?

I've got two custom roles, one has Read & Write permission for Purchases, one has Read Only permission for Purchases. When I assigned a user to both of those roles they had Read Only permission for Purchases. I see on the "Set Up Roles" page that there is a read-only setting for users that will override all permissions but can't find anything about multiple roles.

Please confirm that if a user is assigned to a role with read-only permission on a resource, it will override read & write permission from another role.

Please let me know if this behaviour can be changed in any way. It's really annoying. Why would I assign a user to a role with Read & Write permission if I didn't want them to be able to Read & Write?

    Hi Marcus_Wolfe,

I can understand why that would be confusing. When multiple roles are assigned to the same user, access can sometimes appear more restricted than expected. As a first step, we’d recommend reviewing the roles assigned to that user and leaving only the role they actually need for that area, then asking them to sign out and sign back in again.

If the user has been set to Read Only at the user level, that setting will override any Read & Write permissions assigned through roles.

For more information, please see the help article Set up roles, then scroll down to the Read Only/Read & Write options.

    Regards,
    Earl

Thanks, the user needs both roles.

The question is not related to “Read Only at the user level” this is self-explanatory and I have read documentation about that topic already on the page you linked. That page doesn’t answer the question either

I never said I was confused
