When did it become the norm in ARL that a Journal Entry of more than 50 lines would cause the whole file to stop working so that the only way to continue is to use Ctrl/Alt/Del and close the file so that we lose all the entries and have to start again?????

I’m sorry to hear you’ve had to re-enter the whole journal. Having to start again after entering all those lines is a real hassle. AccountRight shouldn’t freeze while you’re entering a journal. For now, please try splitting the journal into two smaller entries and make sure AccountRight is updated to the latest version. It’s also worth closing and reopening AccountRight and clearing the AccountRight cache before trying again.

Thank you for your reply. I managed to complete the JE by dividing it into two. It's a bit weird that it happened twice so I got very familiar with the numbers by the third attempt. So, is this a common problem that I should look out for?

Unlikely to be a 'common' problem - just likely if you are entering so much data that the BackEnd of MYOB has to parse all this info past its input rule book to then render it legit - same thing would happen if you entered a 50 line invoice or purchase - and the ability of MYOB to do this without crashing is dependent on system memory, cpu power availability and a whole heap of other parameters.
I think you have learnt what we all know by experience - enter lengthy data inputs in manageable amounts.
