MYOB BAS W1 including salary sacrifice amount even though ATO pre-fill excludes it

When finalising our monthly BAS I noticed a difference between the MYOB BAS worksheet figure for W1 and the ATO pre-fill amount.

For the month, MYOB’s Payroll Activity Summary shows:

  • Wages: $81,944.00
  • Deductions: $1,000.00
  • PAYG withholding/tax: $17,139.00

The $1,000 deduction is a super salary sacrifice amount. In MYOB, the payroll item is set up as:

  • Contribution type: Salary sacrifice (deduction)
  • ATO reporting category: Salary sacrifice and RESC

MYOB’s BAS worksheet shows W1 as $81,944.00, however the ATO pre-fill was showing W1 as $80,944.00, which appears to be the wages amount less the $1,000 salary sacrifice.

If I tried to override W1 in the ATO portal, I receive a warning that the amount differs from the STP amount already reported.

Can someone please confirm whether MYOB’s BAS worksheet should be excluding the salary sacrifice amount from W1? Based on the ATO guidance, I understand W1 should not include amounts subject to salary sacrifice arrangements, so I would expect W1 to be $80,944.00 rather than $81,944.00.

Is there something in the payroll category setup that needs to be changed, or is this expected behaviour and the W1 figure needs to be manually adjusted when preparing the BAS?

Thank you.

    Hi Genreve,

I've discovered that Salary Sacrifice wasn't ticked in the Field Setup for W1, once I ticked this it reduced the Wages in the AccountRight BASlink to $80,944.00 which matched the ATO pre-fill amount.

    Hi BW_1145

Thanks for the screenshot and for explaining how your report differs from the ATO’s. That does seem unusual, but there could be a few possible causes.

Before reaching out to support, you could first check:

    • whether you’re comparing the same date range and payroll period in both MYOB and the ATO
    • whether the latest STP report or update event has been accepted

If those look correct and the figures still don’t match, I recommend contacting our support team so they can review your file in more detail. You can do this by creating a ticket in My Account or by connecting with our live chat team through MOCA, our virtual assistant.

    Regards,
    Genreve
