Yes, this is a very, very annoying issue! I think I remember you could "lock" a line by holding down 'ctrl' or something and it would hold the line straight whilst stretching it (but maybe that was available only on the Mac back in the day) but, whatever, that feature is not available. This needs to be fixed quickly.
