Pay Super - ability to future date

With upcoming changes to Payday Super it would be extremely beneficial to be able to create a superannuation payment with a future date, authorise today and the payment is not taken out of the bank account until the future date.

I often do payroll in advance when going on leave.  With Payday super we need to pay super on the day of payroll.  The current Pay Super in MYOB means that although the Pay Super is for a date in advance, that is effectively ignored and the money comes out of the bank account on the date it is authorised.

This will put pressure on bookkeepers/payroll staff to have to either login on the payday to authorise super, or put cashflow pressure on businesses to pay super in advance of the payroll which seems illogical.

    Hi jge

You raise a very valid point!  I'm the same, I often prepare wages in advance when going on leave.  I'm the only staff member with access to confidential employee and remuneration details so there isn't anyone else to do it. This would be a very common situation for many businesses. I think this is partly a Govt problem, I don't think this is something that occurred to them when creating Pay Day Super.  I hope MYOB comes up with a way to handle this!

My organisation shuts for 4 weeks where everyone takes annual leave dec/jan.  I pre do all pays for the period so this will have a huge impact on our Not for Profit organisation.

  • same problem here, it's not really possible to give the task to someone else for a couple of weeks as they don't have the access for myob or the bank. We need a solution before payday super is law, as until then I will just do when I get back from leave.

  • I work for a small business and come in one day a week. I run the payroll to be paid the next day or following week. I'm not even sure if I will be able to create a super payment for a future dated pay run & even if I can I don't want to pay the super before the payroll has been paid. Like many others, the year end pay runs are prepared before the office shuts down for the year - it will make it hard to be compliant.

  • Have we got any answers to if a payroll is created in advance then Pay Super should be able to be set up for a future payment date ? We are a small business and I don't have anyone trained in Payroll to authorise a payment when I'm on holidays in July ?

Would we simply pay it in advance to avoid a penalty for being late ?

This really is a frustrating dilemma that is being exasperated by payday super.  I am also in the position that I am the only person authorised to access payroll/super in MYOB.  I am having a months leave soon, so effectively 5 weeks of super.  Wage payments will be calculated manually but nothing entered on MYOB.  I contacted the ATO yesterday to try and find a solution or even an extension on the due dates but got nowhere.  Basically there is no option but to pay in advance or cop a penalty of $20 per person per week.  For us to pay in advance (estimated guess) is going to be a nightmare as most of our workers are contractors with varying hours!

Appreciate and agree with all stated scenarios. Previously when on leave, the ATO have allowed for STP lodgement deferrals: employees still get paid but I clean up the legality of it all (with lodgement) when I return. Really thought being able to forward date in MYOB would be the answer, still leaves the cash-flow issue but would be one step in the right direction. I understand I should be "replaceable" but apart from needing a few weeks off each year, it's not feasible for the confidentiality reasons mentioned by others, access as mentioned by others... let alone the ATO have not made it easy to give others the authority-access with so many identity hoops to jump through - good as they are, of course. Best solution perhaps, though I too have looked to MYOB, would be the ATO granting lodgement AND payment deferral like is presently allowed re STP.
