For many long-term MYOB users, the removal of independent local backups represents a significant step backwards in business continuity and disaster recovery.
This request is not about replacing the cloud. Most of us recognise and appreciate the benefits of cloud-based company files. Rather, it is about maintaining the ability for businesses to create and retain their own independent backup copies.
Industry best practice has always been to avoid relying on a single source for critical business data. Customer-controlled backups are a fundamental part of that strategy. Major cloud platforms such as Microsoft SharePoint, OneDrive and Dropbox all continue to provide offline synchronisation because resilience comes from having more than one copy of important data.
An independent MYOX backup provides businesses with confidence that they can recover quickly from unexpected events, whether those involve service outages, account access issues, accidental data changes, or other unforeseen circumstances.
My request is simple:
- Restore the ability for all AccountRight editions to create and restore independent MYOX backup files.
- Allow customers to determine their own backup and disaster recovery strategy rather than relying solely on MYOB-managed copies.
- Continue supporting cloud company files while recognising that independent backups remain an important business requirement for many organisations.
This isn’t a request to move backwards. It’s a request to preserve a long-standing capability that has helped businesses protect their financial data for decades.
