I have found two unpaid invoices that have been automatically closed and shown as paid. The payment date shown for each of those unpaid invoices is a date before the actual date of the invoice.
For one of the unpaid invoices, I deleted the credit. The same thing happened again.
I need to clear credits on invoices that are actually unpaid and check if its happened with other invoices.

If an unpaid invoice is showing paid already, a payment transaction was applied to that invoice to close it. In that case, you need to reopen that invoice then you would be looking at deleting that customer payment which would make that invoice open again Here's a Help Article on Deleting customer payments that you can follow.
