Changing linked bank account

Hi - I want to change the name of a bank account.  I've created the new name in my accounts list, but when I try to change my bank feed to go to the new account I get this error message "You can't change the linked account because there are approved matches against it. You'll need to undo these approvals before you can change the linked account".  I have unlocked my file so I can do changes, but the online help tells me I need to also unreconcile the account for "the period".  How long is the period??  I've unreconciled over 12 months but I still cannot change the linked account.  Surely I don't have to go back to when the account was created and unreconcile the entire bank account??

    Hi Sharon1969

    Thanks for posting your concern.

I'm sorry to hear about your difficulties changing the bank account name. In my understanding, we are trying to change the bank account name by changing the linked account of that bank feed. Unfortunately, you will need to undo all the reconciliation on the file for that ledger account. I would not recommend changing the name of the ledger account as changing this will take up a lot of effort and time with so little payoff.

Let me know if you require any further help with this.

    Cheers,

    Genreve

I am not trying to change the bank account name or the existing ledger account name (read my question).  I am trying to swap the MYOB ledger account the existing bank account feeds into and it tells me I cannot do this as I have matched transactions.  Surely I do not have to unreconcile the entire account in MYOB so I can swap the bank feed to a different ledger account?  If I cancel the existing bank feed and then try to restart it and linking it to the new ledger account, will it tell me I can't do that as the existing account number is/has been linked to another ledger account?

        Hi Sharon1969

Thanks for your response and the additional information.

Currently, this is not possible. The application currently contains transactions that have been both matched in the bank feeds and reconciled. Changing the ledger account for the bank feeds would disrupt the data in the file, unless we undertake the extensive process of recreating all transactions that were previously recorded in the old ledger account and subsequently deleting those transactions from the old ledger account.

An alternative approach to match the bank feed with the new ledger account is to cancel the existing bank feeds and then reapply them (after the bank feed has been fully canceled). This action would cause the application to treat the reapplication as a completely new bank feed.

Feel free to post again, we're happy to help.
        Regards,
        Earl
