Delete a NonZero Inventory Amount and Items with Journal Entries

Hello,

I'm trying to delete some inventory items and recieve the error message:

ItemActivity_Delete_NonZeroAmount.

The item quantity is showing zero in all reports and the item hasn't been used for many years.

Think I need a copy of the script which zero's non-zero inventory quantities due to rounding issues as this has fixed similar issues in the past.

AccountRight version 2025.5.1.3 - OFFLINE file.

----

On a similar note, I'm also trying to delete some items which won't delete due to having an existing journal entry.   I receive the error message "You have journal entries on file that use this item".

How do I delete these old and unused inventory items?

    Hi MJPop,

Sounds like bit of a headache with those stubborn inventory items!

We've seen a few posts from other users running into similar issue with the ItemActivity_Delete_NonZeroAmount error and items tied to old journal entries. Here are couple of links that might give you a hand sorting it out:

    1. ItemActivity_Delete_NonZeroAmount Error - not letting me delete an item created in error and NEVER used | MYOB Community
    2. Unchecking i inventory this item | MYOB Community

If you're still stuck after that, best to jump onto our live chat support through our virtual assistant, MOCA. They'll be able to dig a bit deeper with your file and get it sorted.

    Regards,

    Sai

    Thanks for the quick reply.

Both of the above links indicate that you can't delete the inventory items if they've ever been used and that the only resolution is to mark them as inactive.

Some of the items i'm trying to delete have been unused for 10+ years and no longer show any transaction history in the company file.  At what point are the items 'unlocked' to enable them to be deleted?   Do we just have to have a huge list of old unused items in perpetuity?
