Setting up additional two-factor authentication methods

Hey everyone!

We're introducing a new way to secure your accounts with additional two-factor authentication (2FA) methods.

This will prevent sign-in hassles and getting locked out if you can't get codes via your usual method.

We recommend setting this up now to ensure you have a backup method to login without needing to contact us.

You can set up:

- Authenticator app (recommended) on a mobile phone or tablet

- SMS sent to your mobile phone

- Email (if set up initially)

Instructions to set up an additional 2FA method:

1. Log into My Account (myaccount.myob.com).

2. Click your user name in the top-right corner and choose Account security.

3. Click the Add (>) button for the desired 2FA method.

4. Verify your identity with a 2FA code.

5. Follow the prompts to complete the setup.

Once set up, you'll be able to receive verification codes via different methods. If you need to remove or reset a 2FA method, you can do so from the same Account security menu.

For detailed steps, feel free to check out our Setting up additional two-factor authentication (2FA) methods help article.

Cheers, Amanda.

You can subscribe to alerts at status.myob.com - still annoying but sometimes it gives me a heads up before I waste hours. Not always, but often.

  • MYOB is providing additional two-factor authentication (2FA) methods to secure your account and help avoid issues if you can't access your usual login method. You can use an authenticator app (recommended), SMS, or email to determine how you would like to use 2FA. To set it up, log in to your account, click "Account security," and select a 2FA method. You will receive a verification code and follow the prompts to set it up. This will confirm you are covered with additional options to sign in. More about this process and details can be found in the help article for setting up 2FA.

I now want to use email as an option for 2FA but the option is not showing. If your phone has an issue than you can't log in. Thanks

    Hi Antoon,

The option to set up email 2FA only pops up the first time you set things up. Since you’re already sorted for a different 2FA setup, you can check myaccount.myob for other 2FA options you can use aside from SMS

If you’re keen to know more about other 2FA options, there’s a handy page with all the info.

    Regards,
    Genree

    Hi Genree

Thanks for getting back, but it doesn't answer my specific question. I already have SMS and Authenticator options, but these are useless if you have a problem with your phone. I now wish to have the email option which isn't shown. How do I get the email option back. Surely, this is an option regardless of whether it was set up initially? Thanks

    Hi Antoon,

At the moment, the option to use your email is only available during your initial setup. Once that window has passed, there isn’t a way to turn the email method back on or add it later. I know this isn’t what you were hoping to hear, and I wish there was another workaround I could give you, but right now your only options are the SMS and authenticator app you mentioned. I did notice you’ve commented on the ideas post about bringing the email option back, thanks for adding your voice. If you haven’t already, please hit the vote button on that post too. Each vote shows the product team that people want this feature, and it might help get it back into future updates.

    Cheers,

    Princess

    Hi Princess

Thanks for clarifying. I find the actions of your software developers a little bizarre. It's like they don't fully understand the needs of business in the real world. Example, I can't use your browser version of Myob because you can't enter payment type on an invoice which is needed for reconciling. The desktop version has payment types. I and others requested this about 2 years ago, but nothing has changed there.
