Can't close AR on PC
I somehow decided to use the menu File/open to open a file. It asked me to backup and open the other company file. I logged in and work as normal. At the end I am stuck with a library browser screen and a command centre screen. I can't close the command centre screen but clicke the X on the top right or using alt-F4
When I click on the menu or the library browser, all I get is a warning ding and nothing happens.
Eventually I couldn't back up or close. I have to use the task manager to terminate. A bit scary , hope I haven't lost data
Screen shot attached.
Any idea what is happening?
regards
Basil
Hi Slab,
Thanks for the screenshot. I get why you're worried about your data.
What’s happening there is that the Command Centre and the Library Browser are both open at the same time, which is a bit unusual. When you can’t click or close anything and just get that Windows “ding”, it usually means there’s a little pop‑up from File > Open still sitting in the background or off‑screen. Windows then blocks the rest of AccountRight, so the Command Centre and Library Browser won’t respond or close.
Next time it happens, try:
- Pressing Alt + Tab to cycle through open windows and look for a small AccountRight message box, then close it; or
- With AccountRight active, press Alt + Space, then M, then use the arrow keys and your mouse to drag any off‑screen window back so you can see and close it.
Once that hidden pop‑up is closed, you should be able to exit AccountRight normally.
On the data side, you should be fine. Ending AccountRight in Task Manager is usually safe, because it saves transactions as you record them. The only real risk is if it’s in the middle of a backup or actually saving a transaction at that exact moment.
If you’re worried, you can jump back into the file and just spot‑check a couple of your most recent entries to be sure everything’s there.
