End of MYOB v19 & earlier versions

Hi, I have a couple of clients with very small business that have been using older versions of MYOB for many years. They have paid for the licenses of these programs. They are not happy at all about having to pay to upgrade their files to newer online versions of MYOB. Why can they not keep using their old versions. I know you're saying there is no support for older versions but we don't need support for the old programs, we just want to keep using them. Their business are only small so having to pay a monthly/annual fee to use MYOB is not an option. Please advise if we definitely can't use these older versions after February 2026 as we will have to look at other options for these clients.

Hi Fermax and everyone following this thread,

Thank you for your patience and for the thoughtful suggestions—particularly the proposal to open-source the confirmation algorithm. We’ve discussed this and other ideas internally with our product leadership.

After careful review, we will not be able to make changes to, or open-source parts of, the legacy AccountRight Classic software
This includes the confirmation algorithm related to the read-only file issue.

The reason for this decision is one of focus. As shared in our recent announcement, these products have been unsupported for over seven years. Any development, including open-sourcing components, would require significant engineering effort that we must dedicate to our current, actively supported product suite.

We understand this is disappointing, especially for those who continue to use the legacy software. We sincerely appreciate your engagement and the constructive dialogue here in the community.

Our team's priority remains building and supporting the modern MYOB Business product suite, where we’re committed to delivering the best possible experience for all our customers.

Thank you again for your understanding. Mike (MYOB)

Do I have to migrate by 28/2/26?  Or can I migrate afterwards when the file becomes read only?  Will the migration bring across all the old and comparative date when it is a read only file?  The 28/2/26 is a very inconvenient date, being EOM and the close to the lodgement date of December BAS's (3/3/26).

Will I be able to export and print reports after is become read only.  Can I export into Excel once it becomes read only - some clients will then use that to continue their accounts in excel.

Hi Marlyse , thanks for your questions about this.

If you are unable to or do not want to migrate before the 28th February, then whenever the next confirmation for your file occurs after the 28th is when your file will change to read only.

Confirmations don't occur at the same time for all files and customers.
After your file becomes read only, you will be able to view transactions, information, export data and run reports.

However you will not be able to enter any new transactions into or adjust existing transactions in the file

For any files that you do want to migrate, we have a migration team that will assist you with the change
Whether it is active or read only wont affect your ability to move. But there are other considerations around your system requirements and any features you might have used in AccountRight Classic.

How can you find out what date is your confirmation date?

  • I am very disappointed with MYOB’s decision to disable activation and confirmation services for AccountRight Classic (v19), which will render perpetual licence products unusable after 28 February 2026.

This software was sold as a perpetual licence. Customers paid a one-off fee with the reasonable expectation that it could be used indefinitely. The product remains technically functional. The only reason it will become unusable is because MYOB has chosen to switch off activation infrastructure.

While I understand that support cannot continue forever, actively disabling activation goes beyond ending support. It interferes with continued use of a fully paid product and feels like forced obsolescence rather than natural end of life.

The only alternative offered is migration to a subscription-based product, introducing ongoing costs that were not part of the original purchase decision. Many of us deliberately chose a locally installed, non-subscription system.

It is also concerning that the proposed decommissioning date falls mid-financial year, increasing disruption to accounting records, reporting and compliance processes. A more proportionate approach would have been to remove annual confirmation requirements or allow permanent offline use.

I hope MYOB reconsiders this decision or provides a fair solution for long-standing perpetual licence holders.

    Hi NC123

Agree with you and have reported to the ACCC but in the meantime, FGH Tables can sell confirmation codes at a reasonable price.

    Cheers
