Just wondering why, when I press "reconcile" in "bank feed", this does not automatically correspond with "Reconcile Accounts" on banking screen - I still need to press the "reconcile" button there. Seems to me an unnecessary extra step in the process.

Fair point! Clicking through all of that does sounds redundant. When you reconcile or approve a transaction from bank feed window, you're certifying that the two records from the bank statement and your books align. While reconciling from the reconciliation window is your final safety net to make sure the overall ending balances perfectly match up.
