API errors 500 Server ,504 Gateway Timeout

Is anyone in the community integrating with the MYOB AccountRight (Business) API who may be able to help with this issue?

We are experiencing intermittent Errors when fetching data from MYOB API for some of our MYOB Accountright customers that use Phocas for analytics.

The same issue occurred in 2023 and was resolved by MYOB.

It appears to have resurfaced around a month ago, but no fix has been supplied.

-Our integration Does use Retries (3)

-We are Scoping the calls as per the latest MYOB change

-It is Not an authentication issue.

-Not all endpoints fail. The ones that do tend to be the larger transactional queries

-We filter queries to fetch small (incremental) amounts of data - still fails

-We have a registered App Key

-We have around 40 customers that use the same key

-Scheduled sync tasks occur overnight on a schedule . Collisions may be occurring and breaching a threshold. We don't know as this is difficult to monitor this as MYOB developer page offers no useful Usage data.

Any help technically would be great. Or with forming a collective voice of concern to MYOB that may get more priority.

    Hi Phocas,

Thanks for sharing the detailed testing you’ve already done. I can see you’ve tried retries, scoped calls, and smaller incremental requests, so this doesn’t look like a straightforward authentication or request-size issue.

The 500 and 504 responses indicate a server-side error or timeout, but the error alone doesn’t confirm the underlying cause. Please submit this through the MYOB API Support Centre, including the affected endpoint, company file ID, UTC timestamps, request IDs, and response details. This will give the API team the information needed to investigate the specific requests.

Thanks again for documenting the issue and the impact on your customers.

    Regards,
    Genreve

  • Hi Genreve_s
I have submitted help cases to The MYOB API Support Centre
I have also asked our affected customers to log support cases to help add some priority to the issue.

Unfortunately I have not received any fruitful response.
I have experienced delays and broken promises. No detail on what is being checked on the MYOB side.

My comment today is to understand from the community if there is a more widespread issue. If others are experiencing the same issues - If so I can stop spinning my wheels with guesswork solutions on our side of the integration and wait for the issue to be resolved on the MYOB side.

Hi Phocas , as a developer, and if you are signed in to the forum, the MYOB Business API | MYOB Community is the best place to ask opinions of the MYOB Business developer community as a whole.

Delays in replies to API support requests have been mentioned several times recently.

Performance for our customers running (payables) integration apps all day every weekday has been quite good in recent times, and the same with our customers running reporting apps, which can stress the API even more. We've certainly had our share of 500/504s in the past.

We've introduced a "reducing skip value" approach along with retries, eg 1st time skip 1000, 2nd 500, 3rd 250, etc., this has helped. Large item sales and purchases are usually the worst performers. MYOB did announce a performance improvement for item purchases in the latest release (2026.8):

    API developers

Faster purchase bill retrieval in the public API
We’ve improved the performance of the purchase bill endpoints when retrieving bills with many lines. This helps third-party apps retrieve large numbers of bills more reliably.
