Incorrect financial year

Hello, our MYOB Business Pro software is still reporting us operating in the 2022 Financial Year (currently June 2024).  I am worried if I Start a New Financial Year for 2023, and again for 2024 now (16 June 2024), the transactions to date will be included in the old financial year information.  Am i better to wait to the end of the 2024 FY and then update everything for the new financial year beginning on 1 July 2024 (2025 FY).

Thanks in advance for any advice on this.

    Hi RobS26071

That’s a rough one to uncover, especially if you’ve only just found out after your bookkeeper has left.

I would be cautious before rolling over or creating adjustments. Hopefully you’re able to get some clarity around what happened with the end-of-year rollover.

  • I have a similar problem...

I have not had the right financial year since 2020-2021. For some reason the EOY was not dropped over and I have just found out. My BK has not let me know...she's left

  • Hi Tanbrad

The transaction date determines what Financial Year a transaction is posted to.  It is up to the user to Close a Financial Year. This is best done after your accountant has finalised tax matters for that financial year, which is usually well after the actual financial year is over. So provided your 2022 and 2023 tax returns are lodged, it is safe to roll the FY to 2024. Transactions will not be affected by this process.

    Regards
